Our workshop ‘Data Processing and AI-Driven REE Forecasting’, held on 21st of July, 2026 at the Technical University of Crete, is now available in two parts:
The first part of our workshop focuses on the data and digital methods supporting rare earth element (REE) supply-chain forecasting.
Talk 1: Data Handling and Preprocessing for CRM Supply Chains
Dr. Marios Antonakakis explains the iterative pre-processing methodology to transform complex and heterogeneous REE time-series data into reliable forecasting model inputs.
Talk 2: Machine and Deep Learning for REE Forecasting
PhD student Georgios Livanos explores how tracking open-pit mining activity with the use of ML, deep learning and Earth observation supports REE supply-chain forecasting.
The second part of our workshop focuses on European critical raw materials (CRM) policy and decision-oriented digitalisation.
Talk 3: How Critical Raw Materials Shape Europe’s Economic and Technological Resilience
Prof. Dr. Konstantinos Komnitsas examines the importance of CRMs for Europe’s industrial competitiveness and green transition, exploring the Critical Raw Materials Act, Europe’s dependence on imports and efforts to strengthen domestic mining, processing and refining capacities.
Talk 4: Digital Shadows, Energy Systems & Circular Value Chains
Dr. Nikos Sifakis explores digital models, digital shadows and digital twins as decision-support tools, focusing on governance, interpretability, environmental-footprint accounting and circular value chains.
